A film review
I wouldn't call myself a cinephile, mostly because I think that term is too closely tied to the snobbish and pretentious attitude of the online film community, and I want no part of that. It's always been my opinion that art should be enjoyed by everyone, in whatever way we each choose to enjoy it by. The film community often feels like it's constantly trying to one-up itself, always grasping to be the most unique and interesting film person with the most intelligent and unexplored takes about a movie. It's not fun, and so I don't partake. So no, my favourite film isn't an obscure, deep cut project by an unknown director from the 30s, and my reviews won't be essay long analysis... and that's ok.
I love film and feel deeply connected to this medium, therefore I will write about movies I've seen and spill all my thoughts and feelings about them.

What a way to start the year... There was such a mystical and romantic mood through the whole film, like a memory, like a dream. Paul Mescal had an amazing performance, but Jessie Buckley was the heart and soul of this film. The child actors were also phenomenal. I cried and cried and cried.
Hamnet looking around on stage and finally seeing his mother was too big of a moment to process initially, all I could do was heave.

I watched this movie on a CRT, which gave it a nostalgic and gripping feeling. I really liked the storyline because of the double storyline going on with Hannibal and the Buffalo Bill guy. I wish Hannibal had more screen time, because the actor was incredible. I appreciated the cinematography for its time (the manual zoom ins were charming), and the plot was had me paying attention the whole time. I was also very disturbed and felt sick at a few different points in the movie, which I think is an achievement of its own since most modern horror movies don't make me feel much more than boredom. Great movie, would NOT watch it again though because the Buffalo Bill guy wearing a woman's skin almost made me throw up.

This movie was a lot in many ways- heartbreaking, disturbing, terrifying and gut wrenching. The acting was so intense and satisfying, and the cinematography was beautiful and haunting. I really like this movie, even though I couldn't sleep after it. It felt like a work of art with a strong story and even better acting. I was nervous that the end would fall flat, but it really didn't; the opposite actually. I really enjoyed it, but I don't think I can watch it again on account of the amount of times i squirmed and covered my screen with my hand.
